Goodbye July

Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!

July was a great month for me as a writer. I finished the final draft of The Sureshot and managed to blog at least twice a week, every week, for the entire month on each of my three blogs. Both were goals and I am proud to announce that I accomplished them. I racked up some impressive “stats” for me at least and so I’m celebrating and thanking everyone who read my posts, my poems, my work and even more so those of you who “liked” or commented along the way. I’m looking forward to more months of writing and blogging and one day doing this full time. Cheers!

If you liked one of them, you may like others I post.

Birthday Poem: My Fire

While words may not be enough
To describe how much love
I have for you my lovely wife
There’s one word that just might
Fire

Your spirit burns so bright
For people lost you are a light
Those shivering cold, you’re warmth
A warming glowing red hearth
A Fire

When I met you I saw it too
Made me want to get to know you
That warm smile and beautiful face
Drawn to you, into your embrace
Your Fire

My love for you exploded in joy
I knew I wanted every day to enjoy
Your love, your company, your heart
I never want to be a part
from, your Fire

Happy Birthday my love

Burn Bright always

To Be a Child In Summer

Summer sun so hot and burning
Doesn’t slow the children yearning
To play and laugh and swim all day
Until their heads they slowly lay
Down to rest and dream all night
In morning swim again they might
So careless, free and joyful they are
While adults toil to pay the house and car
Oh to be a child innocent and free
Even for one more summer’s eve
Of hotdogs, watermelon and swimming
Adulthood is nice but childhood is living

Summer in Fresno Limerick

Everyone loves the summer
No other season is funner
But here in Fresno
Where it’s an inferno
We sizzle like bacon as we suffer

Fell on Black Days by Soundgarden (Chris Cornell)

The Man was a gifted poet, musician, artist

Fell on Black Days

Whatsoever I’ve feared has come to life
Whatsoever I’ve fought off became my life
Just when everyday seemed to greet me with a smile
Sunspots have faded and now I’m doing time
Now I’m doing time
‘Cause I fell on black days
I fell on black days

Whomsoever I’ve cured, I’ve sickened now
And whomsoever I’ve cradled, I’ve put you down
I’m a search light soul they say
But I can’t see it in the night

I’m only faking when I get it right
When I get it right

‘Cause I fell on black days
I fell on black days

How would I know
That this could be my fate?
How would I know
That this could be my fate? Yeah

Uh, uh, uh
Uh, uh, uh
Uh, uh, uh

So what you wanted to see good
Has made you blind
And what you wanted to be yours
Has made it mine

Don’t you lock up something
That you wanted to see fly
Hands are for shaking
No, not tying, no, not tying

I sure don’t mind a change
I sure don’t mind a change
Yeah, I sure don’t mind, sure don’t mind a change
I sure don’t mind a change

‘Cause I fell on black days
I fell on black days

How would I know
That this could be my fate?
How would I know
That this could be my fate?

How would I know
That this could be my fate?
How would I know
That this could be my fate?

I sure don’t mind a change

Say hello to Heaven Chris
It’s painful how much you’ll be missed

My heart breaks to think you’re gone
That you’ll never write another song

My ears will ever long to hear your voice
And poetic words with eloquent choice

Sometimes low and deep, stirring the soul
To loud and scratchy raising the pulse

Your pain spoke to me and helped me cope
Channeled my rage to avoid the rope

I’m sorry the rope found you my friend
Suppose all succumb to its beckon in the end

Thank you for sharing your pain and torment
Your art will endure, leave a lasting imprint

I will mourn you ahead in some black days
Embrace the black hole sun’s chilling warm rays

Though too short you are great among men
A true artist to the bitter sweet end

A Lament for the Dodgers

Oh, Dodgers how I love you
I will love you evermore

Even though your lack of winning
Has made me very sore

Yes, four West titles are grand
A very nice accomplishment

Yet no world series victory
Since Ronald Reagan president

I was but a lad when last the blue
Hoisted the beflagged trophy

Years now of enduring through
Poor trades and wastes of money

Meanwhile the enemy has won
Three times in a mere five years

Forced to watch and wish them ill
In agony I wiped away my tears

You have the greatest pitcher
Of this modern baseball age

Kershaw is a wonder to watch
As he racks up tens of Ks

Now rookie of the year!
Seager is a marvel

A silver slugger as well
So young, so much potential

Still the struggle and still the strife
Every game is a scramble

For a rotation to pitch through six
BAs against lefties a shamble

Still I don my Dodger Blue
Defend my team to the enemy

So many mocking jabs and jeers
They insult and laugh at me

Please Dodgers I need you to improve
Beat the D-Backs Rocks and Giants

Find a groove, a roll, a swing
Bring home some more pennants

And in October don’t let me down
Beat the mighty Cubs

Prove to me and everyone
You are the greatest club

I’ll bleed blue till the day I die
I’ll never give up hope

So please find a way to win
And bring the trophy home
